I slept in this morning telling myself that my body
needed the rest but what it really needed was a little recovery from the four
beers I had the night before with a friend of mine who was in town. I can hear
you now… “Beers” you say, “But are you not on a diet as well?” To which I will answer: I vowed to do 365
days of exercise not diet. Besides the
occasional beer and burger for the most part I eat Paleo, not 100% because I am
a fiend for soda but the vast majority of my diet is simply meat and
vegetables. Were it not I would be
trying to lose 100 lbs. or more since I have the metabolism of a Sloth.
Diets are something I know quite a bit about. As a fat person I have been on my fair share
over the years before I found eating Paleo.
By the way it was the first way of eating ever recommended to me by a
Doctor. It works too, I have the before
and after blood work to prove it. I
wouldn’t really call it a diet either as you can eat all the fruits and
vegetables you want and any kind of meat.
You only avoid grains and beans which if you have a wheat allergy you
will anyway. The best part is there is no crazy things you have to eat or
rituals you have to perform. Stripped to
its core it is meat and veggies. Easy.
I am sure I am not alone in admitting to trying literally
dozens of diet fads. I’ve done: No Fat/Low Fat, Atkins, South Beach, Calories
Counting, The Fat Flush, Nutra System, other I can’t remember, hybrids of all,
and taken diet pills. I lost weight on everyone but as soon as I put a
chocolate chip cookie in my mouth I gained back 10 pounds. Some of them have you do crazy things that
you don’t question you just do thinking this
is how I am finally going to lose weight. And you do, until you stop then it all comes
crashing back. To be honest the only
thing I haven’t really tried is exercising every day.
Add to that the diets that I have seen others doing but
would never do myself. From yogurt diets
and colon cleansing to drinking apple cider vinegar all day it’s amazing what
we do instead of just practicing a little self-restraint. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying I have
self-restraint because if I did I wouldn’t need to lose 40 pounds and I would
not have had 4 beers last night.
That brings me to today exercise. Kelly up the ante today
with two hours of speed walking, really that just shows me up and to rub it in she sent the obligatory beach photo.
But, seriously, I am proud of her.
Me, it was another jog down a semi busy road with sympathizers
waving and, from the looks on their faces, wondering if I was going to have a
heart attach. My gluts hurt and I was
pretty sure it was from Tae Bo.
