Day 35: I'm Gonna Run Me a Marathon!

True to my word I took it easy today.  The only physical activity that took place was mowing my yard.  Kelly and I had grand plans to kayak Lake Peach Tree; sadly those plans did not come to fruition. My legs and back are doing much better although I can still feel a little pain but nothing like it was yesterday when it was debilitating.

One of my Facebook friends ran a half marathon today. I think I would like to do a half marathon. It is only a little over 13 miles.  I used to jog five with no problems.  Heading to Google I did a quick search and Atlanta hosts a half marathon that takes place in November.  Doing the math on my fingers that gives me roughly five months to train. Since I am vowing to do 30 minutes every day I could easily add longer jogs on the weekend to supplement the run and build stamina.

From the little bit of research I did it seems two hours is the goal on a half marathon.  If I made mine three hours I would think that it would be doable.  I wonder if I should get some red sweats and zebra striped shoes to run it in, maybe some yellow sweat bands?

I need to do some more research and add some local 5K and 10K runs. I am confident that as soon as I recover from the pain that I put myself in I could handle a 5K which is a little over three miles.  According to the Mayo Clinic a person can train for a 5K in as little as seven weeks.  I am already over half way there!

I could use them for motivation and give myself an extra reason to get up at 4:30 AM to jog the neighborhood. A couple of 5K’s then a couple of 10K’s and end the whole thing in a half marathon and try desperately not to embarrass myself.  Right now that seems like a good idea, but you will have to ask me again in the morning if I still think it’s peachy.

The plan for tomorrow is to do some research and come up with a good list of local 5Ks that I could run.  There has to be plenty in the area considering Independence Day is right around the corner.  I would think that plenty of charities would use it to raise some dough.   I will see if I can narrow down a couple and go from there.

After all if I am putting myself through all this pain and writing this blog I might as well get a t-shirt out of it. That seems only fair, don’t you agree?

Jogging is still off for tomorrow my left leg is not quite right.  I am thinking it might be a good morning to break out the ole’ yoga mat and give it a go.  I have never done yoga but it has to be easier on my body than jogging.
