Finally the clouds parted and revealed this giant orb in
the sky that produces heat by converting hydrogen to helium. I was afraid I would never see it again. In celebration of it not raining for almost
10 hours I rushed home and loaded the kayaks.
It was time to soak up some vitamin D and get in a killer arm workout.
If you have never been kayaking you are missing some
serious fun. When the lake is still you
can get some serious speed out on the water.
It’s quite and hard for other people to get to. You can go at a leisurely pace and enjoy the
wild life (on the back side of the island in the middle of the lake we have
seen turtles, fawns, deer, and ducks.) Or you can make it a rowing work out
like we did today.
We set in at the boat dock and made our way to the dam
which was over flowing pretty hard since we have had all this rain. There were others out on the lake enjoying
the warm sunshine, several boaters, a couple of paddle boarders, plenty of
swimmers. From the dam it was a nice
paddle to the island and around to the other side.
When we got around the island there were storm clouds
gathering in the distance and we both thought we saw lightning. It was fun while it lasted. Our brisk paddling became an all-out sprint
back to the boat dock to beat both the rain and lightning. I was paddling so hard my hands grew
numb. I felt it burning in the back of my
shoulders.
Right now my arms are whipped, but it was worth it. I would gladly trade sore arms for an hour
out on the lake in the sunshine after the last week we have had. I am eagerly awaiting it to stop raining to
resume my morning jogs. I miss
them.
I really mean to add more weight lifting to my
routine. I was thinking about adding it
in on Wednesday evening, Friday evening, and Sunday afternoon. The reason is, as always, time. If I stick to this schedule then I only have
one day a week where I have to hit the gym directly after work. Since I am currently on summer hours I only
work half days on Friday meaning I could come home and get a work out in before
most people get off work.
That was my day.
Below is a map of what we did on the lake thanks to run keeper.
